Grand Concrete is a photography zine of brutalist architecture in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
I made it because the long lasting effect of brutalism in the US is fascinating to me, particularly in GR.
Rather than the original intention of emphasizing the value of the workers labor, Brutalism as we see it in the US today has the primary goal of creating cheap, durable structures. The philosophical underpinnings have been entirely removed from the conversation.
